Why Sponsor?

2022 was a watershed year for the LGBTQ+ community in Singapore. Section 377A of the penal code — which criminalized intimacy between men — was finally repealed after 15 years of campaigning, challenges in parliament and the courts.

Pink Dot SG is proud to be one of the organisations at the forefront of these campaigns. Our annual rallies have been the focal point for highlighting the widespread discrimination s377A engendered and helped propel the momentum for change.

We could not have sustained these campaigns without the support of our sponsors, who sustained us and put wind in our sails. For that we are immensely grateful.

But while we celebrate this success, we know that the repeal of s377A is just the beginning. There is so much more to do.

Existing discrimination against same sex marriage is now immune from being challenged in the courts because of an amendment to the Constitution. Meanwhile, immediately after repeal, both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Communications and Information made clear that their pre-repeal policies in schools and the media will not change. And just a few weeks ago, we learnt that a proposed Bill to enshrine into law current workplace anti-discrimination guidelines would not explicitly include sexual orientation or gender identity along with other protected characteristics.

Pink Dot SG will keep highlighting these injustices, and keep working with the authorities to dismantle them; along with our ongoing mission to promote greater understanding, inclusion and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community in Singapore.
